Overseeing &
Supporting Our
Projects

To ensure that our work is aligned closely with the needs and priorities of our local community, our work is informed by our Food Alliance Steering Group which comprises representatives from our main work streams and partner organisations.

The Havering Food Alliance Steering Group provides strategic leadership and direction to ensure the alliance effectively meets its goals of improving food access, sustainability, and community well-being in Havering. Comprising key stakeholders from local government, community organizations, businesses, and residents, the steering group guides decision-making, sets priorities, and oversees the implementation of food-related initiatives. It works to align efforts across different sectors, ensuring a coordinated and impactful approach to tackling food insecurity, promoting healthy eating, and supporting local food systems.

By fostering collaboration and advocating for policies that support a fair and sustainable food environment, the Steering Group plays a vital role in driving systemic change. It helps identify local needs, secure funding, and develop partnerships that enhance food education, reduce waste, and create opportunities for economic growth in the local food sector. Ultimately, the steering group ensures that the Havering Food Alliance remains focused, effective, and responsive to the evolving needs of the community.

Tom Macpherson-Pope

Director of the Making Rooms

I run The Making Rooms, where we train and expose people to new creative & sustainability technologies, to improve residents’ wellbeing, job opportunities and explore their ideas.

I love to visit other creative hubs across Europe and bring back ways to engage our community with new ideas, especially around sustainable technologies such as biomaterials, plastic recycling, repair and urban agriculture. I was first exposed to this way of working at Fab Lab Manchester, and I’m so proud to see the positive effect we have had on our community members.
