The Food Alliance is a member of the Blackburn with Darwen Eat Well Move More Strategic Partnership which brings together key people and organisations working with the shared purpose of getting everyone in the borough moving more, eating well and aiming for a healthy weight.

The Ambition of the partnership is as follows:

‘We will work together to provide the encouragement, opportunity & environment for everyone in Blackburn & Darwen to lead active, healthy & fulfilling lives.

Through collaboration & innovation across the whole system, we will work to build a fairer future supporting good health & wellbeing for everyone.’

Breast Feeding Friendly Borough

Blackburn with Darwen became a breastfeeding friendly borough in 2017 and our maternity/health visiting and children’s centres have been awarded a UNICEF GOLD Baby Friendly Accreditation. Children’s Oral Health

Sugar is the main cause of tooth decay in children and BwD, which has one of the highest rates of tooth decay in our five year olds in all of England, has committed to delivering a range of services to improve this situation. Healthy Start

If you are more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4 you may be entitled to get help to buy healthy food and milk through the Healthy Start Scheme:
  • Cow’s milk
  • Fresh, frozen or tinned fruit & vegetables
  • Infant formula milk based on cows milk
  • Fresh, dried & tinned pulses

Healthy Weight Declaration

In 2017 Blackburn with Darwen Council signed the Health Weight declaration committing to promote healthy weight and improve the health and wellbeing of the local population.
